When was your last dental visit?

When was your last dental visit?

We encourage you to come in and see us every six months for the sake of your oral (and overall) health.

The June holidays are here and with half the year already behind us, it’s the perfect time to reassess your overall health. If you are due for a six-monthly dental visit, why not gather the family together and come in and see us? We provide high quality, gentle dental care in a comfortable environment and will do our best to make your visit as pleasant as possible — even if you’re coming in with young children!

Why a dental check-up is important

Practising preventative dentistry is one of the most important things you can do to maintain good oral health, which is why we suggest that you come in for a dental check-up and clean every six months. During a check-up, your dentist can detect and resolve any abnormalities or oral issues at an early stage, preventing more complicated problems from arising in the future. This often prevents the need for complex dental procedures down the line.

What happens at a dental check-up?

When you come in and see us for a dental check-up, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and check for any issues, such as cavities, plaque and tartar. In some cases, your dentist may recommend x-rays to check for cavities between the teeth. Your dentist will also use a special tool to measure the depth of the spaces between your teeth and gums in order to assess the health of your gums. If these spaces are particularly deep, it could be a sign of gum disease, in which case your dentist will make recommendations to manage the condition.

Besides examining your teeth and gums, your dentist will also take a look for any potential signs of oral cancer in your tongue, throat, face, head and neck.

Do you offer professional cleaning?

As part of your dental check-up, your dentist will also perform a professional cleaning, which involves the removal of any plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth. This cleaning process has a number of benefits and can go a long way in keeping your teeth looking (and feeling) bright and fresh. The process also helps to get rid of bad breath and reduces the risk of cavities caused by the build-up of plaque.

Don’t forget to bring in the kids

The June holidays are a great time to bring your little ones in to see us. In fact, taking care of children’s dental health is just as important as it is for adults and teens and we encourage you to teach your child about the value of good oral hygiene from an early age. When you bring your child in for their check-up, we’ll check for any issues that can be resolved before they lead to complications. We can also provide cleans, fillings, dental sealants and extractions, as well as custom made mouth guards.

We believe that it is important for children to get used to visiting the dentist as early as possible, which is why we suggest that you bring your little one in to see as soon as they start developing their first tooth. This may seem early, but the sooner they feel comfortable with the dentist, the better it is for their long-term oral health.
